Leaderboard Logjam Loosens, Wysocki Rises to the Top

The second day of the Memorial Championship presented by Discraft was an opportunity for the leaders to separate themselves from the rest of the pack and break up the logjam atop leaderboard after day one. There were a number of players within striking distance going into the second round but it was Ricky Wysocki who shot the hot round of the day, 12-under par, 44 at Fiesta Lakes Golf Course. Wysocki is now 22-under par for the tournament and in first place. Wysocki will be joined on Friday’s lead card at Vista del Camino park by Cale Leiviska (-20), Simon Lizotte (-20), and Paul McBeth (-19).

Ricky, who came into the day tied for fourth, hit an incredible 93% of fairways en route to a bogey free round. The reigning world champion found himself with short putts over and over again throughout the round and converted, unsurprisingly, 100% of his circle one putts. Wysocki could have extended his lead even further but was only able to knock down one circle two putt to put himself at 20% in that category on Thursday. Ricky’s 12-under par was tied for the hottest round of the day and he will look to carry that momentum to Friday.

Wysocki would have sole possession of the hot round on Thursday if it wasn’t for a familiar rival having his own hot round. Paul McBeth got off to a solid start, carding birdies the first three holes on the short and technical Fiesta Lakes course. McBeth went on another birdie streak, birding holes 9 through 13 on his way to a bogey free, 12-under par round. The four time world champion found himself tied for 19th place going into Thursday but was accurate off the tee and hit some big putts to get himself into fourth place and back on the lead card. McBeth putted at a 94% clip within circle one and hit 40% of his circle two putts, including a huge 60 footer on hole two. McBeth will look to continue his climb back to the top on Friday as he sits only three strokes behind our leader, Ricky Wysocki.

Wednesday’s leaders Simon Lizotte, Eagle McMahon, and Nathan Sexton, all fell from the top spot on Thursday. Lizotte faired better than his other two co-leaders shooting a 9-under par, 47, including six consecutive birdies to find himself at 20-under overall. Lizotte is tied with Cale Leiviska who shot a 10-under par, 46. Both of them are now in second place and two strokes off the lead. Eagle shot a 7-under par, 49, to fall into a tie for fifth place. Sexton fell off pace shooting a 5-under par, 51, including a double bogey on hole seven. It was Sexton, however, who had the most exciting moment of the day when he threw in a birdie from 105 feet on hole 12.

The action moves down the road to Scottsdale on Friday as the competitors battle it out at the Vista del Camino course. Live coverage will be available on the DGPT YouTube channel starting at 3:00 PM EST. Tune in because you will not want to miss how this one continues to unfold.
